Whistler Pride sends advance team to get Whistler ready for the arrival of the Snomosexuals
Wow, what a day! The Whistler Pride advance team: Dean, Karen, Rick and Gerry set off to Whistler to start with the set up of the 23rd Annual Whistler Pride and Ski Festival.
Gearing up for Pride has gone really well so far and the new set up at the Host Hotel, Aava Whistler, is looking fantastic. We can already feel the excitment with so many of the local Whistler merchants coming in to say hello and welcome us back. Feeling like a Rock Star.. or at least a “Pride Star”!
The local media has done their homework and has done a great job in previewing some of the week long festival.
After a great day of getting so much done, it was time to treat ourselves to a little rest and relaxation before the hectic week ahead. So off to the Scandinave Spa for our zen treatement. This would be Karen + Rick’s first time… after spending a short two and a half hours we were all in bliss.
There truly is something magical about having a hydro theropy experience while surrounded by pristine forest and mountain views. It is no wonder that the Scandinave Spa is one of the top Trip Advisor experiences in Whistler.
After a wonderful spa experience we headed into the Village for dinner at the Brewhouse Whistler. Of course it was all purly for quality assurance… as the Brewhouse is one of the festival’s official EatOUT partner restaurants. Gerry had the Chicken Burger, Rick the French Dip, Dean the Jambalaya (hot and spicy!), and Karen the Lamb Shawarma wood burn pizza. Without a doubt, Karen’s choice was the clear winner. Really yummy!

How are you gearing up for Pride? Now less than 24-hours! So excited!! Check out the Festival Guide… now online or pick up your own copy in Vancouver at Little Sister’s Bookstore, Fountainhead on Davie or Top Drawers… in Whistler you can grab your copy at tha Aava Whistler hotel or later this weekend at most of the Whistler hotel front desks.
Sashaying her way into the 23rd annual Gay Ski Week the annual event is making news
Thought this would be a fun page where we could assemble various news stories we are finding on Twitter and other social media outlets and perhaps provide some of our own comentary along the way.
We are very fortunate to have really great editorial coverage from so many writers from around the world and want to find a way where we could collect those stories and re-share in case you missed it the first time around.
This is a great story, we did not share it when it first came out as the writer like many at the begining when news broke that we were creating a Pride House at the 2010 Olympic games assumed it was a gay hotel of some sort. It took us hundreds if not thousands of interviews to educate the reporters that a “House” in terms of the Olympics, is actually a hospitality suite and not meant for actual housing… though I am sure there have been a few that may have passed out at Heineken House!
The 23rd annual Whistler Pride and Ski Festival brings the community of Whistler out to celebrate diversity at the opening Welcome Reception at the Westin Resort and Spa Whistler
Executive Producer, Dean Nelson says, “We are so pleased to see the diversity of Whistler merchants and community groups that are coming out to welcome the festival’s guests at the Westin Resort and Spa on Sunday, January 25th from 4PM – 7PM.”
In total there are twenty businesses that have signed up to share with the Whistler Pride attendees on what there is to do in Whistler and beyond. Nelson continues, “… we have a luxury wellness spa coming in from the Okanagan, Sparkling Hill Resort will be making the trek to Whistler from Vernon, BC to share some of the unique health and wellness retreats available. I am sure that some of our guests will be interested and will want to do their Spring detox amoung the cheery blossoms and wine country!”
The Welcome reception will be serenaded by award winning Canadian recording artist Sarah Smith while guests are meeting some of the locals as well as other guests from the estimated 26 nations participating at this year’s festival.

The Twisted Slipper kicks off movie project at Whistler Pride
Local Whistler Film Makers wins a spot at Crazy 8’s Film Festival and set to take flight at Whistler Pride and Ski Festival
It is wonderfully coincidental that just a couple of days ago, a few local filmmakers from Whistler have been chosen by a Vancouver film festival to make a gay genre film! Out of almost 200 entrants – they have been chosen in the final 6. The film is a short, about a young gay man, finding his way through a fairy tale to his true self. A drag queen and some sass give him courage to own all that his Stepmother and Stepsisters don’t allow him too. Ending on a high note, it’s a great message and a wonderfully funny and spectacular film to be made by our local team.
The talented Whistler creator will be at the Welcome Expo on Sun., Jan. 25th 4-7PM to talk more about the film “Twisted Slipper” -you can’t miss this dazzling diva! So if you would like more information on how you can get involved, she will be there to answer all!
