Whistler Pride Love

Whistler Pride Love

As we count down to our big celebration of 25 years of Whistler Pride, we are looking for some stories we can share as we reflect on how Whistler’s annual Gay Ski Week has shaped and changed lives.

Whistler Pride began in 1992 out of the love and passion of being our authentic selves and has continued on that path since. Over the years we had a few different brands from Out on the Slopes – Atlitude, Gay Ski Week, GayWhistler Ski Week, WinterPRIDE to now the Whistler Pride and Ski Festival. Many of the festival guests have found their loves for the day, the week and some lucky enough for a life time. As we count down to #WhistlerPride25 we are looking for stories, photos, and videos on Whistler Pride Love. Do you have a story to share? Photos or video? We want to hear from you. Love Snow

Love Snow – La Niña & Ullr may just bring a very early opening to Whistler Blackcomb

Love Snow at Whistler Blackcomb
October 18, 2016 – Whistler Mountain P: Mitch Winton – Coastphoto.com

The official Opening Day for Whistler Blackcomb is scheduled for November 24, but if Mother Nature continues to deliver there could be the possibility open earlier. We also know that historically the snow team at WB will be working around the clock to be one of the first if not the first mountain resort to open in North America.

Whistler Blackcomb reported they had received overed 75cm with last week’s storm and a lot more in the future forecast.

“It is starting to feel like winter right now with 55 centimeters of snow sitting at our mid mountain Pig Alley weather station located at 1650 meters on Whistler Mountain, and snowfall continuing with another 25 centimeters forecasted in the alpine by Saturday morning,” reports Whistler Blackcomb’s Public Relations office. Whistler Blackcomb goes on to say, “Although all this early snowfall has skiers and snowboarders amped for the upcoming season, we are reminding all guests that for your own safety access to our mountains is not permitted until opening day as our operations teams are working extremely hard right now to get Whistler and Blackcomb Mountains ready and safe for opening.”

So are you a betting person? Do you Love Snow? What day do you think Whistler Mountain will open for early skiing? First person to guess correctly will win a pair of  Snowball25 tickets to Whistler Pride’s 25th anniversary main event with international DJ/Producers The CUBE GUYS of Sleeping Giant Music

Jantober at Whistler

La Niña and Ullr are off to a fantastic love affair in Jantober

Massive Pacific storm transforms Whistler Blackcomb into a Winter Wonderland

It is hard to believe but this October at Whistler Blackcomb is looking more like snow conditions we would normally expect to see in January. It may come as no big surprise with our extreme climate change and the arrival of La Niña that we are seeing big snow so early in the season. This past weekend the mountains received over 60CM of snow, some reports of over a meter of the White Gold. This is all very good news for our skiers hoping for an early mountain opening.

The team at Whistler Blackcomb are excited to see the romance of La Niña and Ullr brew in Jantober all #InTheNameofWinter shooting an epic short video to tease us for the coming season.

I have a feeling this is going to be a very epic season. Book early and lock in some of the great Early Bird hotel rates before November 15th. I suspect the rates will jump as the snow continues to pile up and the demand to experience the 8,171 acres of pure skiing and riding bliss infects the world.

29th Annual SKI Magazine Resort Survey Places Whistler Blackcomb Back On The Podium

Whistler Blackcomb Number One resort for 2017 by Ski Magazine

WHISTLER BLACKCOMB NAMED NO. 1 SKI RESORT IN NORTH AMERICA THIRD YEAR IN A ROW

WHISTLER, BC September 23, 2016 – For the third consecutive year, the SKI Magazine 29th annual Resort Survey has named Whistler Blackcomb as the No. 1 Overall Ski Resort in North America. Whistler Blackcomb has held this title four times in the last five years and has also consistently scored high for terrain variety, off-hill activities, lodging and après. With approximately 15,000 people surveyed, the SKI Magazine Resort Survey is the most comprehensive survey of its kind.

“Our vision at Whistler Blackcomb is to be the No. 1 mountain resort in the world,” says Dave Brownlie, President and CEO at Whistler Blackcomb. “We consider SKI Magazine’s No. 1 ranking three years in a row a massive victory towards making that a reality. Whistler as a community is dedicated to providing an outstanding guest experience and it’s nice to see the public opinion reflecting these efforts.”

The SKI Magazine 29th annual Resort Survey asks people to rank the top 50 North American ski resorts in 18 categories covering the full resort experience. Now in its 29th year, it is the longest running resort survey in the ski industry. In addition to placing No. 1 for Overall Ski Resort in North America, Whistler Blackcomb ranked No. 1 in categories for Terrain Variety and Off-Hill Activities, No. 2 in Lodging and Après and No. 3 in Lifts, Dining and Terrain Parks.

“Today’s skiers are demanding more from their ski vacations, looking for a wide range of amenities on and off the snow,” says Allen Crolius, publisher of SKI Magazine. “Whistler Blackcomb, with fantastic skiing across two mountains, and vibrant base villages, delivers on all fronts, earning its No. 1 ranking in SKI Magazine’s annual survey.”

Whistler Blackcomb is officially scheduled to open for the 2016-2017 winter season on November 24, 2016. The resort has already seen the first signs of winter with snow reaching down to mid-mountain elevations. Upgrades to the resort this season include newly renovated patios outside of the Roundhouse Lodge and the Garibaldi Lift Company, and a much improved beginner experience in the Olympic Zone complete with two new covered carpet lifts, regraded terrain, an improved snowmaking system and a new gourmet grilled cheese hut. Whistler is Getting a Splash of Colour

Whistler is Getting a Splash of Colour

To help mark the silver anniversary of diversity in the Resort Municipality of Whistler (RMOW) a proposal from the Whistler Pride and Ski Festival organizers to the Mayor and council of painting a permanent Rainbow Crosswalk in Whistler has been unanimously approved.

“We are so excited, Whistler is getting a splash of colour ahead of our 25th Anniversary”, explains Dean Nelson Executive Producer and CEO of Whistler Pride. “We have always had a positive working relationship with the community of Whistler and their stakeholders. To have the RMOW council unanimously approve our proposal is really quite reaffirming in the resort’s commitment to safety and inclusion in our community. We are really looking forward to 2017 and seeing our idea come to life just like our Pride House project in 2010 and hope this symbol will continue to inspire future generations to be proud of who they are and to claim their authentic selves.”

Sunil Sinha, Executive Producer and Director of Entertainment is pleased with the star studded line up the festival has brought together so far. Building on the success of bringing in headline artists for the past two years including Margaret Cho, Bianca Del Rio, Miss Sherry Vine, Varla Jean Merman, and Jackie Beat has really helped to build the festival’s mid week programming with glowing success.

“We knew we needed to up our game for our big 25th! Earlier this summer we have been able to announce we will be bringing in the infamous Airhostess PAM ANN, the alter ego of Caroline Reid. It is going to be an amazing show and already is creating a lot of buzz around the planet as she makes a very special “Snow Landing” in Whistler on Wed., January 25th at the Whistler Conference Centre. We are also very pleased to have been able to secure the World’s Top 10 House Producers, THE CUBE GUYS of Sleeping Giant Music, to headline the festival’s main event, SNOWBALL25. This Italian duo will have the dance floor packed!”

Though you can expect a lot of Silver in 2017… you can now expect a Splash of Colour to help mark the big milestone in Whistler!  Tickets now on sale <click here> for more information.
